This drink was inspired by James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem. He purportedly mixed Irish Whiskey with Champagne before shows for members of the band who were feeling nervous. After that combination, their stage fright was gone. I wanted to make a cocktail that used both ingredients and bridged the flavor gap between them.
Pair with loud music and the knowledge that you’re becoming less cool.
(Note: Feel free to scale ingredient costs up and down to fit your budget. These are the brands/types we used.)
2 oz. Irish Whiskey (Jameson)
1/2 oz. Maraschino (Lazzaroni)
1/2 oz. pear juice
1/2 oz. lime juice
1/2 oz. orgeat syrup
Brut sparkling wine (Alexandre Monmousseau Crémant de Loire)
Shake all ingredients except sparkling wine over ice and double strain into a Champagne flute. Top with sparkling wine.
This drink goes down easy. Almond from the orgeat and brut, cherry from the Maraschino; the pear’s sweetness is kept in check by the lime juice. With whiskey AND bubbles, be careful with the second round.
